My first "evil" British plane of the Malvinas War!
This plane is basically the cause of the United Kigdom (we never call it like that, btw, always say "ENGLAND" ) defeated us in the 1982 war. Excellent machine, terribly trusteable even in really bad weather conditions (aka as usual happends here in the south atlantic, right now i have 80 kms/h of wind), incredibly modern for that moment _basically brand new_ and to worse armed with the hyper new AIM-9L sidewinder missiles that USA gave to the UK ( <.< )
The Sea Harrier ironically almost was bouht by the Argentine Navy very few years before the war, but the AGAIN usa mades a move and sell us old A-4Qs to use in our small Carrier "25 De Mayo". Altought the S. Harriers was heavily outnumbered (but by ANCIENT planes excepting the IIIEAs, that was still quite new) was very sucesfull against the Argentine Planes, shooting down 21 of them, 17 thanks to the yankis AIM-9L Sidewinder
About the number of planes lost, the number varies. the UK always lied about the numbers , like with the damaged / sunk ships. By sample, according with British fonts, no even a single sea harrier was lost during the first attack the 1st of May 1982. Our soldiers can show that wasn`t exactly like that ;3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGpz0NI31Bo http://www.laperlaaustral.com.ar/im.....arrierdest.jpg
My estimation is around 10-11 planes lost, counting the shooted down by missiles ( Tigercat, SA-7), Artillery ( 20 and 35 mm ) and the ones that was lost in operative accidents (one literally FELL FROM THE CARRIER , so can imagine how bad is the weather around the islands) , but knowing the britishs surely was some more. And i am not including the Harriers Gr. 3 of the Royal Air Force. In all case, no one was lost in air to air combat altought the tries of the argentine pilots
We must wait until 14th june of 2072 until the UK MAYBE will start to recognize the real damage suffered in the war. Why so many years of secret if you`re not lying? =3
About the specific plane, boscombe down`s page says
"The first version of the Sea Harrier to enter service was designated the FRS.1 for Fighter, Reconnaissance, Strike, and the first unit to operate the type was 700A Naval Air Squadron (NAS) which formed in June 1979. The major shortcoming of the Sea Harrier FRS.1 learned during operations particularly Operation CORPORATE (the campaign to liberate the Falklands) was its inability to fight ‘beyond visual range’ or in cloud. Work began to improve the aircraft and it was originally designated the FRS.2, but removal of the strike role after the end of the cold war led to it being re-designated the FA.2 (Fighter Attack). The last Sea Harriers bowed out of service when 801 NAS decommissioned in March 2006 being replaced in the short term by Harrier GR7s and 9s of the Joint Force Harrier.
XZ 457’s first Flight was in December 1979 with Test Pilot John Farley at the controls. The aircraft was delivered to 700A NAS Fleet Air Arm Yeovilton in January 1980, wearing code 104. It was then recoded 14 when 700A NAS became 899 NAS.
From April to June 1982 during the Falklands War she was embarked on HMS Hermes. On 21st May following an attack on HMS Ardent, Lieutenant Clive (Spag) Morrell shot down one A-4Q Skyhawk A-307 with a Sidewinder and damaged another with 30mm cannon fire. The second aircraft was subsequently confirmed as a “victory” after the conflict when it was confirmed that the pilot had ejected with undercarriage failure whilst trying to land at Port Stanley airfield. On May 24th, Lieutenant-Commander Andy Auld shot down two Grupo 6 Daggers with Sidewinders over Pebble Island."

c`mon man, we know how empires and super powers acts. happened to us in 1806, 1807, 1845, 1847... and the one of 1833 that mades me built this beautifull plane =3
strong big countries crushes small or weak ones, if can with politics, if not with bullets (and lately JDAM bombs). Isn`t some exactly new... i have lot of british friends, but that doesn`t made me blind!
Next will be the Antartica. I always sayd and i still say it

btw, is quite probable that i will buy here a Harrier Gr. 3. The Sea Harrier kit is really enjoyable to build even for somebody as me that isn`t fan of the realism!
but will check first if the ones here have cluster bombs or the british ones of 450 kgs first. With sidewinders would be more of the same of this one =3
still, before that, will draw the pay for this one and at same time i will start my second Pucarà =D
didn`t notized until yesterday that both Pucaràs made by airfix can be visited in British Museums O_o the A-515 and the A-522. And at least one is in perfect flight conditions!!!
Gah britishs museums rocks

Oh yes, I reccomend Italeri, they released a special anniversary edition too.
Good crisp plastic that reacts well to the paint :)
Both are in very good condition, one in the RAF's "rogues gallery" of captured aircraft XD the other is in a small air museum near my home-town, both lovingly looked after. The only other intact Pucara from "those" islands is in parts in Duxford :)

http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar.....ctedFromParent then i did it well XD
should had parts for DECADES! 25 pucaràs ended in the islands, and several was not very damaged

i know that the RAF liked the pucarà, altough its completly primitive or just unexistant electronics XD
soon my sea harrier will have a partner of the RAF to not feel alone as almost the unique british modern thing in my collection, excepting a scorpion tank!
let me know when have news about the Mirage IIIB. i am working making pays , by arrive date. Just started the pay of the sea harrier, tomorrow will start the second Pucarà

the pucarà really needs a modernization. HUD, DEFINITLY MORE PYLONS (never understood why just 3!) and i would change the 4 machineguns for 2 mirage 30 mm cannons (excellent weapons) plus the ex gloster meteor 20 mm ones. Maybe a radar too from civilian planes. but before nothing, PT6 engines
and *palpatine voice* goooood. that plane is very needed in my fleet
