A run in with unsafe lab practices led to the contamination of Vinny's skin with an untested mutagenic compound meant to combine cellular DNA.

Current test subjects within the lab comprised of varying lizards, Vinny's own test subject a 5 Lined Skink undergoing gene therapy to enhance regenerative capacity. Initial side effects of exposure are discolouration of the skin, blurred vision and pain within the lower back and extremities.

Taking time away from work in a panic Vinny sterilises her entire apartment; clothes, possessions and herself multiple times. Within a week her skin flakes away to smooth black scaling, toes and fingers necrotise while bone structure changes. Eventually leaving her a cross species breakthrough unable to leave her apartment.

After a few weeks of isolation coming to terms with the change (badly) money is running short, the rent has not been paid and there are numerous messages from her boss detailing the decline in her perfect future. Fear of losing everything drives her to seek out help in the shadier parts of town. Word spreads of her predicament and she's put in contact with Hun the leader of the Purple Dragons in NYC.

At the promise of shelter and acceptance (the Dragons are not one to turn away unusual talent) Vinny joins the gang. Initially her role is that of sentry for small raids. Her new athleticism allowing her to aptly scale buildings and traverse the city in a new way.
