Oh my, what a composition, what a beautiful colors, and this spring atmosphere is godly cool!
I mean...
THANKS TO SAI
for ruining 3 hours of work on the 3-4 comic pages xD
Well, it was unexpected, but we survived, and Grimm sketched and lined all the characters from the very start again. The new version looks even better then old, but anyway, FAILS SUCKS.
Our advice for anyone, who wants to use SAI in future - don't forget to save one project two or even three times, in different folders. It will save you and your drawings oneday, believe me.

Sai, like any editing/art program is very demanding on your Ram and a little on your CPU. The less ram you have the more likely it is to do this. I have 8gb Crucial Ballistix DDR 3 RAM and I work with major files in sai. Sai can take up to 4gb 'Max' of your ram and if the program tries to exceed this limit it will freeze up. And when it does, engaging any action in sai will try and push that limit and results in the program crashing.
Yeah, when you save to dropbox, and its updated, it saves it as a "point in time", if your file is erased mistakenly or gets corrupted, you go to your dropbox homepage and click on the little garbage can icon, and you can see erased files, also if the file is still there and corrupted, you can click it on the homepage and click on "previus versions", and youll be able to download it again from any time it updated, its pretty handy, specially for someone like me who lives in a place with constant powerouts xD
I've definitely had stuff like this happen before, luckily I tend to try to have multiple saves so I can recover something, but it can suck so bad. Sorry you had to deal with this.
Sometimes I end up having to save my files in Sai as .psd and I haven't had a corruption issue when saving as such. Additionally, the file saves a TON faster as a .psd than a .sai which is really nice when dealing with large files (like <10 seconds versus a minute+). The downside being I cannot save anything other than a .psd after opening one without restarting the program (it gives a "failed to save canvas" error for anything else) so I have to take the file into another program that can open .psd files to convert it to a file type for sending to commissioners/posting online.

Sucks.
i've had every art programme i've used crash on me at some point (Photoshop, Painter, Krita, PaintshopPro, Gimp, MyPaint, etc) - but all of them had auto saves so i'd usually only lose 10 minutes or so of work. i've been thinking of trying out SAI for some inking, but does it not have autosave - or was this file from an autosave? Anyhoo autosaves are not infallible. So i learned to manually save every 20-30 mins -less sometime - save when you've just done something that where you think "ooo, that looks good!" - so save it!
And not as writing over a previous file, just in case the save does this! i save with a title, date, and version : "Addled Anaconda - 05 20 15 C" - then every few days erases un-need saves. This has the advantage of 20-20 hindsight : "i think i liked that green sky i did a few days ago better than this one..." you can fetch it back and still have all your current work to go with it...
