David Letterman ended his 33 year TV career as the late night king of Comedy on May 20th. I always regretted never catching a live show while I was in New York.
Back in 2007 when I was a GOH at ICON, I got to do some touring in NYC.
speet
eryshefalafel and
comus gave me the locals red carpet treatment. I never got inside the Ed Sullivan Theater, but was outside.
Gonna miss the daily Top Ten lists, Stupid Human Tricks and Stupid Pet tricks and his antics outside the theater.

Look on the bright side - in a few months Stephen Colbert's name will be on that marquee. (Although he left a void on Comedy Central that can never be filled...and now Stewart's leaving too! )
But as far as late night, my heart will forever and ever belong to Steve Allen. That man was a genius, he could do a silly comedy sketch one minute then turn around and thoughtfully interview a guest the next. (One of the reasons I love Jon Stewart is that he can strike the same balance.) One of the great thrills of my life was meeting him - and I have signed copies of both his "Funny Phone Calls" LPs to prove it!
