And here is the mystery character, Sylvan, in full colour.
Sylvan, a male fox, is the star of the self-titled cartoon "Sylvan", created by D'Ocon Films Productions. After being found in a forest by the wizard Linmer with a case of amnesia, Sylvan swears to protect the kingdom of King Leo from the evil clutches of Prince Tarconius and to defend justice and liberty. He's quite a fighter, good with a sword and bow and arrow. He's a bit of a vagabond, getting in trouble with the King now and then. He and the King's daughter, Princess Diana, have a love/hate relationship going on between them that grows as the series progresses.
I had first seen the show on the SABC, where it was translated to Afrikaans, and this was my favourite furry cartoon until I saw Road Rovers a few years later. It sometimes still shows reruns on KykNET, though sadly not the entire series had appeared on the TV. It was lots of fun for me to watch, since Sylvan and the characters were quite an interesting bunch, not to mention watching the relationship between him and Diana grow from hostility to love. Also, the show was a bit more adult-orientated from the usual stuff you'd see in US cartoons, at least from my point view.
There was a big downside of the cartoon, and that was the animation technique. The number of unique frames in a single show (or even a group of shows) could be counted on my fingers. The show would recycle some frames many times over, so you would see a scene you had seen before in other episodes, only with new dialogue and such. Apparently this was part of a new animation system being tried out by D'Ocon, and it definitely showed. This was a big negative which probably hurt the show's ratings.
Still, I enjoy Sylvan and someday I hope to get the entire show on DVD if D'Ocon ever does go that route.
Picture wise, it turned out better than I expected. Sylvan looks just like he does in the cartoon, the shades and highlights fit well and the background is pretty pleasing especially the clouds.

Wow! You also know this? I have last seen this cartoon many many years ago when I was still in Junior School, the show aired on local TV here in South Africa, and was dubbed in my home language, Afrikaans. Sadly, I cant find anything on Sylvan anymore, I have a few Spanish resources but nothing else. Which one did you have? English?
OMG, I kan nie glo ek het nie agter gekom jy is ook van SA nie! Eish, lekker blonde oomblik gehad!!!! Jammer man!
Nou maak dit als sin! :D
Ek het die show gelove, maar ja ongelukkig kry ek nerens meer info oor dit nie, sal nogal daarvan gehou het as ek DVD of iets van dit kon kry! Ek was nogal verbaas dat die Afrikaanse taal gebruik so goed was daarin!

good drawing of Sylvan,n_n, i saw these serie some years ago(two or three years),altough i saw the version dubbed in Spain, but the voices were good,n_n, and the series was good too, and yes, is truth the abuse of the limitated animation made that the serie would have few rating, jeje, but these that was a serie of the 90's and the animation in Europe didn't be very good without the cooperation of Japan and China, jeje
