Filling in more gaps in the Goji Chronology. ^^
After the colossal mess that was TriStar's Godzilla remake, a majority of the fan community were quite pleased when word came that Toho had reclaimed their property, and were in fact in the process of making a new series of movies.
But instead of a continuation of the previous series, Toho decided to start anew once more, and thus began the "Millenium Series", in what would become (as fans began to realize) a series of mostly unrelated movies. Beginning with Godzilla 2000, which brought the Big G into the new century with a new look. Some think it took some pointers, ironicly, from the very thing fans loathed, the American remake.
He was more reptillian/dinosaur-like, with jagged scales, which gave a more rough edge to him, as well as a more saurian-styled face. And speaking of jagged, his spinal fins were now like actual spikes, not as seemingly clean-cut as they had been in the past.
His fire was also different this time around, no longer blue but a searing orange color.
This look would last throughout most of the series, except for GMK and Final Wars, with only a few minor tweaks here and there as things progressed.
And once again, in a move to again distance this series from the later Showa-era films, Godzilla was once again, (more or less depending on the movie) a threat to humanity. Usually dispatching other monsters out of pure coincidence, instead of any real desire to "save the earth". A fact which was puncuated by the end of Godzilla 2000, where upon destroying the latest monster to oppose him, Godzilla then proceeded to stomp a kaiju-sized mudhole in the surrounding city.
An interesting thing to note, is that unlike other Godzillas, this version tends to be shown (outside the movie) with a more green-ish color, as opposed to the classic charcoal grey that most Godzillas had. Why? I dunno.
