Since people have been enjoying th B/W sketches I've poseted of the flexible fennec I thought I'd post one of the older color pieces I did of him. Here we see Abdul Master of the Dance taking a break between acts in the Palace of Andur. He has several special outfits that he likes to wear while performing; this one is designed less for contortionist ans juggling work and more for true dancing.
One of the advantages he has is that some of us can travel back and forth from 14th century Northeast Africa and 21th century USA. This means we can occasionally sneak back something for him. Like modern colorfast fabrics which would cost a princely sum in Andur, or simply not be available. The Sultan has bestowed purple fabric on him since gaining his title but stuff he's wearing in this piece was a gift to him from Rosemary.
This piece is from both my "small ear" period but also from a time when my necks got really skinny for about a year!

He exactly 37" tall. In regards to his family only his older brother Hasim lives in Andur and not in the palace. Unfortunately the rest of Abdul's family/ clan was killed in a landslide returning from his wedding in Andur. It was probably one of the roughest times in both his and Hasim's life. Now many other fennecs have started immigrating to Andur. Some specifically because they've heard of "Abdul the Fennec" who lives in the palace, but they are not relatives of his.

Adult fennecs tend to be around three feet tall, for reasons nobody really understands, although in the modern world it drives scientists crazy trying to figure out why. Weasels and their relations are around four feet tall. Yet other felines and canines are “normal size”. All in all, it’s quite the puzzle, and saying “it must have been the magic” isn’t very helpful, since the magic started fading at the end of the classical age and faded completely between the Renaissance and the English Civil War or thereabouts.

Yes it is the fate of many dancers, athletes and performers that to achieve the level performance they do they in effect void the factory warranty on their bodies. Fortunately fennecs don't seem to get arthritic in their older years they just move much slower. Tron muscles or ligaments that's could happen.
I have an idea for a character, female bellydancer who passes herself off on occasion as a male one -- a kocek in the terminoloy. This is the kind of outfit and pose I visualize her when acting the part, albeit with a closed-front bolero jacket and loincloth over briefs with a false you-know-what sewn into the inside lining.
