No. Going to get a bunch of fake leather (Pleather?) and shape each scale individually. I'll sew them into the tail starting at the bottom and working my way up. That way all the scales will overlap and look realistic but also be soft to the touch (for pettings :D ). I have no idea how to work with chain mail stuff or I would try metal.
