Welp, her eyes are just about open, and she was just so cute when she half barrel rolled (and then wiggled her front paws in the air like she just didn't care) and looked up at me I tried to get my hubby to catch the moment but she tilted her head and blinked.: P
It's much colder than usual tonight so I'll be awake for most of it drawing and checking on the temperature in her nest.
In other news, my main hermit crab tank has a bad case of mites. Bad friggen timing. I'll set up a spare tank tomorrow for them to go into until I have a chance to clean the big one... which is a 2 person job. I'll likely throw away most of the stuff that was in there that can't be boiled...
Which reminds me... need to save up for more sand.... (ugh, I planned on doing another deep clean soon too... just not soon enough I guess).

You're talking about a woman who won't even let us get a window mounted AC for a room which is usually 10-15 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. (because aparently it's silly that a person can't sleep in a 87F room)...but only because she thinks it'll drive the electricity bill right up there.
Welcome to motherhood (sorry I had to get that out of my system after following all the posts ) Cute kitten, just becarefull it doesn't imprint the idea that it's human. It's always been my understanding that some animals tend to do that after being raised by a foster species. Any ideas how it will survive outdoors when it gets older or socialise with other cats yet?
BTW any idea on it's gender yet?

No idea what to do about her going outdoors yet... and I've been considering trying to introduce her to my sister-in-law's outdoor cat when she's bigger. Don't know if it'll help or even be healthy (she doesn't exactly take care of him... no idea ifhe's caught anything. He's pretty old though, and mellow. He used to let the neighbourhood kittens hang around him all the time...back when he was still...er.. whole.: P) I'll hold off until she's had her shots at least. Hope there'll still be room for socialisation by that point (since she's hand raised I've read they get their shots a month earlier than normally raised kittens).
60% sure she's a girl. Another week or two and I might be more confident.

Yeah there's an electric blanket under the nest (we tried over and in but those either didn't work too good or kitten could climb out using the pad.. and we didn't want her sticking her claws into a live current.
It's jsut... sometimes the nest warms up too well. Luckily the kitten fusses when that happens. @.@
On the other hand I worry that she might stay in the cool end too long and then not be able to move to the warmer area. @.@

Yeah we have no idea how my sister in law's cat manages. We figure he hides under the house but... somehow he's survived several years of hurricanes and many cold winters... though he was allowed inside the one time it snowed.
Personally I think it's cruel. -.-
And yeah.. the mites are the same branch (anthropods) as hermit crabs so they like the same food.... kitten has been keeping me busy lately so I didn't get a chance to clean out the crab stuff like I planned and boom... overnight surprise...
I cna't use stuff that would usually kill mites because it'd affect the crabs as well... So much more complicated than it should be right now...

Cats are strangely resourceful <.<
We (well, my parents) had two living outside on the porch for a number of years. We usually get ice before snow so it drops amazingly cold without any kind of precipitation but somehow they managed. It wasn't until the construction near by drove some coyotes out of the field that all the stray cats and dogs disappeared...

When I lived in Malaysia kittens would vanish regularly due to snakes, other cats (usually toms), bad weather, accidents (cars and rat poison primarily, I believe)... it was awful even if they were strays.
My cats have always been indoor and outdoor cats...allowed to come and go as needed. This hasn't always prevented accidents but on the other hand they had somewhere safe they could hunker down in...

Malaysian kittens aren't vanishing... they're regrouping... :D
They weren't always outdoor cats but my mom still has those little beliefs that she grew up with like a cat can steal a baby's breath so years ago, they went outside. They got a little wild and they never really got adjusted to coming back in (y'know, property issues and peeing on things). So they kinda inhabited the porch

We just entered the "The baby is crying for no aparent reason" stage. .o
Thankfully she doesn't do it for too long but it's still a grand mystery what she wants in the meantime.
Course if she goes for longer than 20minutes that usually means something is really wrong.. -.-;
Ah...it'd be a little easier if she had a littermate (even if it'd be more work for me).

I wish I could but there's not much room between the bed and the dresser. I can stick my hand in there and let her butt it for a while but that's about it.
Plus trying to give her the bottle while she's in the nest has it's own set of issues.. ah well. She's doing better now. I guess she just had a tummy ache.

Sorry, Kandlin and I have been kind of busy, i am just not catching up with posts and pics from a month ago. So now for several things. What you are doing is great, the nest, the formula, all very good. I have more experience with raising baby bunnies, but I have had a few bouts with itty bitty kitties...and from what I have read in your journals and the pics you are doing a great job, and she is very lucky to have you. I will admit to being a bit pissed that your mother-in-law said you had to get rid of it, hell the poor little thing would die on its own, that is just cruel. I hope you can keep her in your room, or find someone else to take her, even just for awhile until you and your hubby can get a place of your own (I had to send my furry children to my parents when we moved into an apartment, but I was able to get them back about 6 months later, only slightly worse for wear)
When you first started talking about the sneezing, I was worried it was upper respiratory, a horrible thing in itself. But I am glad she/he is better. Best of luck and let me know if there is anything we can do to help.
