The last example for my commissions was also a picture I just did for myself. It is another of my gemsona, Obsidian (since I am using these for examples), and I have made a headcanon of her character that her gem is unable to glow, and after coming to terms that she is indeed a gem and not human, it makes her feel very self conscious/broken/upset/defective (also it's located on the nape of her neck, so you can't see it from here, but she is reaching for it in the picture). It's also another portrayal of my own personal insecurities that I have mirrored onto her as her own, and it's also in a place that is easy to hide, and is in a place she can't even see without a reflection (she can also hide it behind her hair), and is also in a very sensitive place.
