It's finals week, and Jax is feeling the pressure. Herpetology hasn't been going well for the depressed red panda, and an hour before he'd just failed the final. He isn't too worried about his GPA, but he'd never failed a course before. He is a senior this semester, and knows his time is running out before graduation.
"Have a good afternoon Sherry!" Mr. Grant calls out to his graduate student assistant. She was a nice little bunny, but stubbornly resistant to the 44 year old grizzly's charm. Though, the departing G.A. quickly left his mind when he looked down the hall to find his favorite student walking slowly towards the large double doors at the end of the hallway.
"Alex!" Jax is surprised to hear his name being called, but instantly recognizes the deep, rich, baritone of his advisor and old biology professor Mr. Grant. He whips his head around forward the large grizzly's office.
"Oh, Mr. Grant, how are you?" Grant smiles warmly as the youth faces him, but instantly notices a dejected note in the boy's shaky and low voice. Though Jax's tail visibly shifts side to side at the sight of him, the bear knows it was drooping a moment ago.
"I'm doing fine as usual, but is everything okay? You look a bit down. " Jax cranes his neck upward as he gets closer to his looming professor. Eight are a pain in the neck, but Mr. Grant is a welcome site to his low spirits. He jumps a little as a great paw falls across his shoulders.
"I-I'm doing alright. I just..." Grant enjoys the instant blush he receives from his little friend, and pretends to not notice as Jax smoothes out his bristling tail. "I didn't do too well on my last final." Mr. Grant assumes the red panda is understating his problem, and starts leading the boy into his office so they can talk. He was about to head home for the day, but this is the perfect chance to get Jax alone for a while.
"Want to talk about it?" Jax notes that while it had been a question the big arm across his back wasn't asking. He wasn't about to bring that up with the daddy bear he has a major crush on though. Besides, the old bear tended to give excellent advice. He meekly allows Mr. Grant to lead him into his office and close the door.
