I wonder how common cannibalism actually was on ships. Knowing what health problems sailors tended to have, one would think they were the most unappetizing human beings to feast upon each other in history. The rats, leather, and sea gulls would be a healthy, delicious feast in comparison.

Of course, it would seem space has some advantages over sea. The entire crew seems quite healthy for starvation-on-the-verge-of-cannibalism, even plump. They might be delicious.

It was actually quite common, common enough that they had a name for it.
