Things As They Are [l2edPanda]
The man bent over his guitar,
A shearsman of sorts. The day was green.
They said, "You have a blue guitar,
You do not play things as they are."
The man replied, "Things as they are
Are changed upon the blue guitar."
And they said then, "But play, you must,
A tune beyond us, yet ourselves,
A tune upon the blue guitar
Of things exactly as they are."
I'm a huge fan of Wallace Stevens, especially when I was younger. This poem is one of my favorites, and this is just the first of many stanzas. I had the idea some time ago and just knew that LA was the one to do it, and I couldn't be happier with the results!
(I do play the guitar as well, although it has been a considerable amount of time since I played regularly).
