The second and forth verses are great
third verse good but awkward
The first one you meant to be numbing
It's TOO blocky
Some smaller words and more boring structure would help not scare the reader off

(i recommend as much of Orwell's essays as possible. hard British, but as clean and straight as they come. More recent? the historian Bernard Lewis)
