This is my dog, Dutch. He's a bit retarded, but I love him! Not the most flattering angle for him, but I think it's cute anyway.
BY THE WAY! Before you ask, he's a pitbull husky mix. PITSKI! <3

It takes 2 years!?
Geez. My husky's 6 months and my parents can't wait for the mellow to settle in. I like Frank the way he is, but I was interested to know when he'd stop gnashing at people and jumping on them just to say Hi.
Does Dutch do that, from having some Husky in him?

Dutch does indeed do that.. well, he tries! I've been teaching him since I had him (about a year) to not fucking do it because it drives me nuts, and it's incredibly rude. He never jumps on me, and rarely jumps on other people.. but he does still slip up!
Yes, unfortunately it really does take about 2 years. 6 months is a crazy age, but it is a really good time to start training them! The good news is, they DO start to calm down.. but not until 2 X)

Well, most guests and my family have gotten used to the dog jumping on them. Apart from say, when my father is wearing his suit or something before he goes to work, then he gets really furious.
He also destroys stuff. If he's outside, he likes to demolish plants and small trees, and anything out of paper he can get hold of gets torn and strewn around. Does that go away..?

ALSO, a good way to teach your dog not to jump on people is to grab their paws and dig your fingers in until the dog yipes! It only takes once or twice, and then they'll think again. Convince the rest of the people in your household to do it and you're on your way to a not jumping dog =P

OH MY GOD he can be a handful for sure. Husky dismissiveness + pitbull blockheaded-ness can be a nasty combination. When I first had him I could never keep him interested in me or anything I was doing. SUCH a pain in the ass. He's such a teenage boy too (intact), so it's a constant power struggle.. but he knows who's boss. He's finally almost 2 years old so he's mellowing out considerably and becoming such a good boy! He actually listens now =P
Well its good that the two of you have each other. Any dog with a pit lineage has a hard time finding a good home and I could only imagine with husky aloofness and staffy blind determination that it would be a struggle. I imagine the struggle has been completely worth it for both of you. With your love, patience, and consistency, you've got true companion now. Everyone wins.
(I got soft spot for pits...and well dogs in general)

Yeah, it's finally starting to get really awesome. I have to give huge props to Allison(Java) for all the pointers she's given me along the way! I could not have done it without the help =P.
I used to not be a huge fan of pit-types, but ever since getting him I've really developed a love for them.

Allison seems like she really knows her way around dogs...like she understands them more than most. I grew up with neighbors having pitbulls and all of those dogs were goofy and loving. So aside from just being handsome, muscular critters, they all struck me as loving and sweet. Every rottie I've known has been a cute goofball too.
Thanks again for sharing pics of Dutch. Marvellous critter and this discussion makes me love my own dogs all the more.

Ahaha, I don't actually like the camera all that much. It takes nice pictures, but getting it to do so is SUCH A CHORE. It's bigger than I would like, so I hardly ever take it anywhere with me... and the U.I. SUCKS BALLS. It's counter intuitive to the point whre I've had the camera for 2 (3?) years and sometimes I still have a hard time making it do what I want :/
That and it's full of Playa dust from Burningman and sand from the beach. DOH.

Pitbull/husky? That's almost as weird, though not as mechanically improbable, as that Rottweiler/dachshund mix (hint: the Rottweiler lay down). And I'm glad to see he's got at least a little dirt on him; shows he's got character.
I'm still waiting for our four-year-old malamute to start listening to me. :/
