Love the art. Love in particular how the Kecleon seems to be contemplating its existence.
Now as for the Super Mystery Dungeon hype this is celebrating, well that's something worth discussing. Frankly, I'm a tad sceptical about it, and to help explain why, I'd like to bring up a game from another franchise: Unlimited SaGa.
Unlimited Saga essentially did all of the same shit wrong that Gates to Infinity did: Great music, nice art, horrible everything else, and GtI had microtransactions on top of that. Unlimited SaGa was a franchise killer. There hasn't been a SaGa game since. By all means, GtI should have been the spinoff killer. The fact that Game Freak has the balls to bring it back tells me two things:
1) We will not be getting a main series Pokémon game this year. This I'm rather happy about. It means that Game Freak will be taking more time and care with the next game, it allows the competitive metagame to stabilize, and it gives the anime and manga some time to catch up.
2) It shows that Game Freak realized that Shuffle and Rumble wouldn't satiate us and now they are desperate for filler. PMD was the spinoff that was the least fucked out of all of them, so bringing it back as opposed to anything else they have is the logical decision.
It is this perceived desperation and sudden early release date that concerns me. It makes me fear that we will get an incomplete product with a halfassed story and bare bones post-game that will be a copy-paste of GtI mechanically with rushed models for all of the other Pokémon and even more DLC.
So basically my hopes are not too high for this game. Even the title, Super Mystery Dungeon, reeks of laziness. This isn't fucking Mario. This isn't the 80's or 90's. This is PMD. Thinking about how clumsy and lazy X/Y and ORAS were gives me even less hope...

Umm... Gamefreak doesn't make the Mystery Dungeon games, Spike Chunsoft does.
As for the DLC, they aren't microtransactions. They aren't a part of the main game. They are extra challenges that you can take and the main game is still fully functional without it (The freemium games that we got will only function for a while before having to wait until the next day to get to play again or pay for more time. Now that is microtransactions)
As for GtI, it wasn't THAT bad. I enjoyed the story and there were a lot of character development on the side characters. I even enjoyed building up Paradise. However, I was disappointed to see that there are only 150 or so Pokémon and we can only pick one mission at a time? That's what makes the game play slow and tedious. While it does hurt the series, it's not a killer series.
All in all, I hope Super Mystery Dungeon doesn't follow in Gates' footsteps.

Wow epic fail on my part. I've just been trained to associate anything Pokémon with Game Freak because I predominantly play the main series games and am enthralled by their lore.
To me micro transactions and cheap DLC are really no different. What's even worse is that some of GtI's DLC content was content you would expect to be part of the main game, such as that the nerfed version of the typical 99 floor dungeon where you get reset to lv 1.
Lastly, GtI's plot was terrible, and what the actual fuck with that final boss? That's some Necron shit right there. At least Bittercold from FF IX felt like an actual battle all the way through as opposed to the Bittercold fight where the first half is stalling for 10 turns waiting for the plot to haul ass and the latter half just feels like knocking though a 500 HP wall.

I haven't played any Final Fantasy games but I do agree that the final boss is too easy. Though I was surprised the final boss was not a Pokémon.
And I also agree on the DLC. I did expect to see the 99 floor dungeon being in the main game since we got those in the previous games. I would totally be okay if they made special episodes dlc instead.
As for the story, everyone has different taste. I thought it was good enough for a PMD game but there are some things that bothers me. The plot this time around hardly focuses on your character/partner. It just focuses on the stuff that happens around them. They've even missed a big opportunity that could have shown a lot of development on your partner by having your partner's parents show up. Instead, we get "I'm an orphan. I haven't met my parents. Okay, good night" and that's the end of it.
I agree it's really flawed but I don't hate it. Just... disappointed
