Honestly, I never understood why a black cat is so associated with Halloween. I mean, cats don't really possess any kinda haunting or creepiness to them. Ghosts, monsters and zombies, I understand, they are scary.... but cats, they are just cute. Cats would be more appropriate as the mascot for Valentine's day when you think about it.

It's likely tied in with the belief cats were often the familiar of witches and wizards in addition to the fact the color black was considered unlucky/the color of death.

But why a cat? Sailors had cats for good luck (and to eat mice on the ship) and there weren't really any witches or wizards, so claiming that a they own them doesn't hold ground. I am calling for a regime change! From now on, Owls will be the official mascot of Halloween.

I've always wanted a black cat. All the black cats I've ever met have been the smartest, sweetest, most patient cats I've ever encountered. (for instance, my mate's parents have a black cat that just lays limp and relaxed while you dangle her upside down in your arms using only her hind legs for leverage... she's that trusting. and she can make her way through the maze of storage-attic-surrounding-the-apartment-above-the-garage)
Incidentally, I find this comic to be the kind of attitude I've found in the black cats I've met as well. Since they're so smart, they seem to be extra uppity. ^^

My family has to keep our 2 black cats inside because the neighbors are so superstitious that they throw rocks at our cats and stuff, my stepdad almost beat a kid up for that once (kid being like 17)

Atticus is an AWESOME name for a cat.

Our black cat is named Monster.

My parents used to have something around 6 black cats, four of them very fluffy. We're down to 4, but the one is such a sweetheart. Gets up and curls into my lap, rubs against everyone he meets. Good cat...
