its sort of a slate to which start ideas for creatures/furries/etc.
EC will hatch it into anything you think the egg fits.
I bought one in the past and it ended up a capricornian of very unique and useful design, it kept the look of the egg's design.
but buying the eggs just buying the idea behind it, you can make your own thing with it, have someone else do something with it or give it to EC to have fun with for a tiny fee :)
