One of my stronger pieces to come out of school, and the peak of my papercraft art to date. I had to make a Jack, Queen and King card based on a culture. I chose the Victorian era, and made all 3 female. Queen Vic herself is the "King", followed by a Duchess of the time as "Queen" and a Servant for "Jack". The border is based on Neogothic architecture. The actual "suit" symbol is a stained glass roundel. Lots of research went into this piece.
I used the paper medium to my advantage to actually create depth in the arches, and a lot of people love how the characters "pop" off the page, especially Queen Vic's staff.

We had to learn to do cut paper images like this in college in first year, just to make it fair to people who didn't know how to use photoshop (which is taught in the 2nd year level of a specific degree), and even into 2nd year we had to either use cut paper or goauche for our final projects. I fell in love with cut paper, it's so relaxing (other say it's stressful). Everyone tells me I have a natural talent for it, which makes me happy, because I struggle in all the other art fields :P. I won't be doing any more cut paper stuff for class, but I might try and take it somewhere in my free time.
