This is the first submission in a personal project to depict the "Seven Deadly Sins" through the villains of Redwall. I was inspired to do this by two things: I came across this one artist on Deviantart who did the same thing, depicting the "Sins" as beautiful women (unfortunately I have not been able to find this pics so I cannot give a reference - yet, anyway) and her pictures were so wonderfully beautiful and intricate that I couldn't help but what to do my own series; plus, some of my fellow Redwall-fans on DA have been doing their own series of making Redwall characters into card decks. I had thought about doing that myself, but the whole idea didn't really appeal to me. So, I decided to do this instead.
The first "Sin", as you can see, is Vanity (or Pride). When I first decided to do this, I wasn't entirely certain at first which baddie would fit which sin, so I asked a few people for their opinion. While they all differed in one way or another, they all said the same thing when it came to Vanity: Ublaz was the perfect choice. (And actually, I even thought of Ublaz for Vanity myself before I started asking around, haha.)
So here we have Emperor Mad-Eyes himself, depicting Vanity. He's doing what he liked to do in the book: look at himself in the mirror. But you might notice a couple of things, such as his reflection depicting him with the finished version of his crown, and there being no reflection of the Monitor Lizards. These things were intentional: in the mirror, Ublaz sees himself and only himself, he is unconcerned with the troubles of others and esteems only himself - and he also sees what he desires most: his crown adorned with the rosy pink pearls of Lutra - items which he never got in the book. All of his efforts to get those six mussel seeds were all, well, in vain.
Also, the reason why there's so much purple in this is because that's the color associated with Vanity. Plus its traditionally the color of royalty, so, yeah.
