I've never really figured out exactly what masks are good for. They are in every program so they have to have some really good functional use, but when I tried to use them they just seemed to eat up a lot of memory. I guess that's what happened because everything slowed down. Then in a short time i figured out a way to do whatever it was I was trying with them in a way that was easier.

I'm not sure if I've run into this problem, but I think that's because I almost always work in transparent layers in SAI. That part doesn't seem to work quite the same way as it does in photoshop.
