And here's the third and hopefully last turtle tub. It seemed like he couldn't swim in the last one without bumping against either wall or rock, but now this one seems so empty. It's one of those under the bed storage bins, hence the wheels at the corners. It's also larger than the stand it's on... because of the wheels, I'm thinking about putting it on the floor, since it'd be easier to move to follow the sun, but I'm afraid of stuff falling into it (bedsheets). You might also notice the heater under him. I wasn't sure about it, but he seems to love it. He always sleeps or rests near it.
I was told barley could help keep tanks clean, but I couldn't find barley straw, only some barley pellets. These were meant for ponds and I now agree. They fall apart into little pieces when wet, which my turtle then ate. The water also ended turning green; not just algae on rocks, but the water itself was so green I couldn't see the bottom. I don't know if it was the pellets or the softened well water, but I'll find out since I'm not using the pellets this time but am still using the water. I'll have to go back to getting filtered/treated water from Walmart if it goes green again.
