The character Zyl, an epic dragon demon thing, started her life in a freeform RPG in a Yahoo group. As part of one story arc she died.

And then spit in death's eye.

And from then on could not die or truly be alive. She gained the ability to see souls, but lost the ability to die without losing the ability to feel pain. The group decided on this so that we'd have a way to end the arc without killing any of our characters, since that didn't look possible.

Later she sacrificed herself. Literally and ritually to destroy that part of her life and revive her dead twin who'd been haunting her from day one.

And here she is, waking up from being dead. Breathing again.
