well I'm on it but largely confined to being a weekend warrior. I quite like it despite thinking it's not balenced as well (Cause there's a certain fun in using your own customised mechs to turn other people's pride and joy mechs into junk)

If you have a half-decent PC, you should check out MechWarrior Online if you haven't already, though the new player experience at present is a little lacking.

I actually tried the beta for it, i honestly wasn't impressed o.o; I can try to give it another go though. I might just nab a working copy of mechwarrior 4 instead

What didn't you like about it?

only game mode available was elimination, and a really steep XP progression to unlock average gear.

There are now three game modes (even the original game mode got a make-over with the addition of turrets), and a Faction Warfare mode with two of its own modes that have limited respawn (4 'Mechs). The Pilot Lab is said to be overhauled at some point but Faction Warfare ("Community Warfare") is still getting messed with.
The module system has also been reworked.
There's over 50 'Mech chassis, which includes both Clan and Inner Sphere, available. If you take into account variants, there are over 200 'Mechs in the game!
5-6 CW maps, more on the way.
10-12 normal play maps, some of the oldest ones are getting overhauled.
Bitchin' Betty is in.
12 v. 12 is in.
Balance is a little weird still, but it is a lot closer than it was in Closed Beta, and this is AFTER they added the Clans.

Mechwarrior 4 is released free if you're curious :D (yes, legit copies were released sometime ago for some anniversary of the game)

Not anymore, sadly. MekTek lost the licensing stuff for it, and now they're all tied up with Dream Pod 9 making Heavy Gear Assault.

Wow, I actually had no idea that Harebrained was involved at all. Also amusing to me that they went from a BattleTech game to a Shadowrun game.

I refuse to recognize any other warhawk because I can simply put the prime arms on any other warhawk and 4 PPCs is too silly and fun to not use.

try the infamous "direstar" build of a direwolf with 9 erppcs......that one really burns when you ppc.
