Yay, another traditional artwork showing… Reptile, who else? ^^”
As a matter of fact, this is a remake of an artwork I've drawn in April 2002:
http://www.reptile-universum.de/rep.....nups/Night.jpg
I still love that artwork and the pose very much... it was time for a remake. And we can finally see Reptile's entire body again!
It shows Reptile in a time when he wasn't a part of the human society yet... but just a Reptilian warrior who had to fight for survival.
Drawing media:
Pencils, pen, ink, markers, COPICS, acrylics and brush (no digital media!)
Working time:
Roughly 10 hours
Size:
A3 (30x40 cm)
Character and artwork by Patrick Reichel aka

I did do some "Comic Cover Art" remakes in the past... it was a time when I created some digital covers for my comics.
But yes... I am thinking about creating ORIGINAL TRADITIONAL GRAPHIC ISSUE COVER ARTWORKS again!! :D
Because... well, my 5 graphic novels are the keystone and center of my universe... they are most important and hold MOST of my visual material.
YA know... a monthly artwork is nice... but no pin up can compete with a 76-page graphic novel.
I guess it would be nice to draw alternate COVER ART again!

Looking at the two, the difference is massive.
The feet and right arm look right now, the scale detail and shading even more so.
The weapon he wields not a Pole-Arm, but more likely a Spear (if I've got the loose definitions right) which I'll guess was a main weapon used by Reptile prior to his entering human society.
In short, a massive step up from the previous image.

Yeah, well... the old artwork is from 2002 ... and this here is brand new! ^^"
Would be a pity if I did NOT improve over these years.
XD
Yes, it is spear... just a native spear. I've checked how to construct this one... and though I think that Reptile found the blade somewhere, this is still JUST a simple spear. ^^
THANKS for the comment, buddy!

Heheh so true ^W^
Most of the artist now in days focus on the Digital media like you said because of all they special effects and all. Its ok, but personally looking at traditional work is more captivating because it is real work done on paper. Hence why I'm going to stick with traditional from now on. We need more Traditional artists like you in this digital world

Absolutely wonderful to look at, I really love how well you did the coloring all the way here. For change this sort of even makes me feel in ways nostalgic, can't tell why exactly but thats how I would describe it! ^^ Can't find really anything to criticize about, the way you drew and colored even the scales looks simply all the way pleasing to look at as well and even such tiny detail like when the spear now gets pulled off theres small bits of blood gashing out in air, simply a nice tiny touch!
Hehehehehehe... nostalgic... maybe, because of the typical "Comic Colour Combination" I did use here. This very strong "blue"... it is something I have used in the past decade many times.
^____^
And yeah, my scale texture is something I have developed over the years... and it is still in progress.
EACH single scale..... :D

Shweet!! I was waiting for this ..
Now that it's colored I can tell just how crazy that creature looks that reptile is attacking.
We all enjoy seeing reptiles whole body tho... He doesn't need clothes anyway XD.
But anyways... how old was reptile when he got involved with humans ?

You waited for it... and here it is! ^^ The wait is over.
I'm glad you like it, thanks!!!!
It was in the year 1353. Reptile (born 1305) was about 50 years old... but these are Reptilian years. In human terms... he has been something like a teenanger!!! XD
Yeah, he was like a teenager... more or less.

well not all spiders are fluffy
fun fact though; tarantulas for the most part are pretty harmless, even fragile they most harm they do is cause itchiness because of their fluff. The only exception being the Indian Bird eating spider D: its nasty!
also baboon spiders are really aggressive

very nice artwork, he is a great character and model, he looks so male, brave and of course if a creature tries to eat him, that will be his last meal, because he wil ldefeat any enemy he faces.
Nice outfit and the colors are great, you have a lot of talent, by the way he has a very nice ass, I wish one day tou could draw that sexy dragon of
symbolhero named Drake fighting with your character (I mean defeating a powerful enemy)

MAN! I bet a lot of people told you this, but I´ll say it anyway. This pic sure brings back a lot of good memories!!! : D
Obviously because of the old drawing you did long time ago but now refreshed in your actual style, that always gives an amazing impression. But also, it´s bee a while since you have done a night time scene. You used to make a lot of night scenes at your firsts drawings. And that blue color, it looks classic, which is why it brings back too easy ^ ^
And of course, Reptile being native, that was his beginnings, compared to what he became now, the process, the evolution, the change, is what makes your characters more impressive and more related to us, because they´re changing with us, growing up with us, and progressing with us ^ ^
Something else, a super clap with the stars effects, they looks realistic and with a lot of life for the night, and to think it´s part of the white canvas, the application of the blue surrounded looks natural, as for the moon too (probably you may have used white for some details XD) and the character´s texture, the monster´s fur, and Reptile´s scales, so solid, so realistic, and so conveincing. you never stopped impressing me with the time of work you spend for them. I really love this piece of art, and it WILL definitly go to my faves ; D
CONGRATULATIONS MAN!!!

I knew I had seen a similar post before, heh!
But really, the difference is way too much comparing the old drawing to this new one, I can see lots of improvements on reptile's anatomy and the detailing of the scales, which is a really good thing .
You made a great work on that strange monster that is attacking him, looks like reptile isn't scared to act against it, and finally it's really difficult to believe it was all made in traditional media .
Another great work from you, keep up your amazing work!

I must say, a pleasent sight to behold!
It was about time that reptile got more primordial again, though it is only for this picture I suppose.
Don't get me wrong, I like the more cultivated drawings too, but sometimes it is nice to go back to the roots, the very beginning.
In this case, he returned as a triumphant with so much tense and might in his figurine that the sheer raw spirit was enough to overwhelm the gigantic foe laying to his feet. The drawing is superb and you found a splendid way to express the primal power of the protagonist.
Additionaly you were able to use the right amount of detail. Neither is it too distractful, nor is it boring. The anatomy is nearly perfect and the pose has so much tense in it that you could imagine, Reptile is ready to strike you next by jumping out of the picture.
The art style, of course, is a remarkable, yet not much improved hallmark of your traditional drawing style.
I suppose it is due to the fact that you wanted to "redraw" an old painting of yours.
All in all, a very solid work on drawing and a superb masterpiece of picturing raw power!

Thanks sooooooooooo much for the comment, my dear friend!
Reptile IS going to be less armored in the future artworks, too.
I'm planning on giving him the usual studded leather skirt... ya know.
But the upper body will be almost nude... except an armored plate on the shoulder.
And yes... it's hard to improve my style any further... but hey... my next character sheet will br traditional.
^__^
I really appreciate your feedback.
That's so great.
Thanks a million times.

Well... I've done a step by step video...

But no tutorials, sorry. :/
I admit I cannot really draw while being watched or filmed.
xD
And it would be a long video, too.
