Just as an FYI, I appreciate everyone's comments on Dev's shirt XD I really wanted to post SOMETHING in conjunction with that, but I've had a bit of an art block all weekend =X So this is just something quick from the i.s.o. trivia archives.
Generally I scale all my characters' heights based on their species, relative to other similar species (Class? Family? Genera? Been awhile since biology class)... ie, a horse would generally be taller than a bull. So the fact that Doug is an enormous mountain lion, larger than a Cody--a Siberian Tiger, the largest feline--is a little out of the ordinary. I've sort of explained it away that he's part...uh, whatever you call non-mountain lion. African lion? And the shots of Doug's family in i.s.o. are ambiguous enough to allow this.
Todd was actually a mountain lion in the original sketch draft of i.s.o. that was posted long ago on LJ. (No, I don't know where that is, no, I don't wanna look for it, no, I don't care if you still have it. I like my old art buried ;-p). I later made him a tiger so he'd relate to Cody better, but I almost made him a liger, which is why he has the thinner stripes and higher percentage of white fur. But a liger is an even bigger animal, and he needed to be smaller than Cody, so I made him a Bengal tiger instead and just handwaved his fur pattern (though I almost made him a Golden tiger to maintain the color pattern, and THAT could've made him fluffier than Cody--so, nope).
So to make a short story long, proportionately, Todd works better as a mountain lion, and Doug should have been a liger. And this is sort of how'd they look if they were.
And as I finished this, I concluded I'd totally have to change their clothing/hair color schemes, not feelin' 'em like this. But I left them as is so they'd be identifiable.

I personally try playing with it. As in, leave things that make that species, well, that species, but play around with anthropomorphing them further. For example, all my guys have human-like traits, such as five fingers, five toes, human-ish peens, and tongues too, so that mean my felines don't have scratchy rough tongues. Also plays around in that my three felines are shorter than my rottweiler and my hyena, who are my tallest guys. But I then try to add some species traits, such as my rottweiler being rather slobbery and able to produce lots of saliva, and my hyena having a shrill, annoying laugh. I just prefer a mix between keeping loyal and playing around with them to not always be the expected.
Um, obviously I know what a cougar is, since I was drawing one for years. My point was it's weird saying non-mountain lion. Actual lion is just awkward. And even just plain "lion" isn't necessarily a proper label, ie Snagglepuss (whose species confused the hell out of me as a kid).
Pro wrestler, maybe!

Emm... Doug, as a Liger... He just looks SOOO EXTRA SNUGABLY SQUISHY now with all that fluff and stripes.
Todd looks cute as a Cougar, though Stripy version still feels best and in a way, it worked out for the best for having the most fun with Cody. Keeping him the Buffest, FLOOOOFIEST Tiger in the cast. >=3

Interesting backstory, though in a world where animals walk and talk I think your alterations work perfectly fine. Plus, I think they came out cute and crush-worthy as drawn.
Also, can I have Todd's body? In all the ways that that implies? The genetic symmetry of his abs is... enviable.

holomake is just virtual domt let looks fool you the effects stop working at midnight, batteries not included, it may cause loss of hair, dry itchy skin and not yet proved tumours and rampant behavior...

Doug as a liger... He was already huge as he was, as a liger he wouldn't have fit through doors! ^^
For Todd, I think going with a tiger was the better choice. The same species kind of helped establishing him and Condy as best friends who have known each other since they were kids.
Now that you mention golden tigers... ever thought about making Cody a golden tiger? I bet he could outfluff even Nate ^^

I'd think with all the species, they'd start making larger doors.
That was kindasorta based on my own upbringing; there weren't many Japanese-Americans in the area, so my parents would always kinda force other Japanese friends on me, the sorta "OH YOU TWO HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON, GO PLAY NOW."
He'd have to be a Bengal that way, IIRC Siberian tigers never get the Golden mutation.

Could be, but if there aren't many, he'd hprobably have the same problems very large people have in RL.
Haven't seen it from that point of view, more as a story telling device. But it fits. My upbringing was more the other way around "Don't play with those kids, they are bad influence."
I remember correctly, it is a mutation that only occured at captive tigers. So I'm not sure if it really is restricted by species or just the result of selective breeding.

I really had to do a double-take in looking at this pic, because it really did look as if you just swapped their heads and recolored. o_O
I can definitely see how Doug would work as a liger because of the size, but I have a thing for species would should technically be smaller being bigger instead. ^_^ And while I admit Todd looks pretty cool as a cougar, I prefer him being a Bengal for that connection with Cody and how the stripes hug his muscles. (Though I admit it would have been interesting seeing Sam as a tigress.)
