What's popular these days is a mockery to the legacy real metal has left behind - what you've heard is a sad shitfest of poor guitar playing and pig squealers. Death basically invented the genre of death metal which poser bands try so hard to imitate and simply don't come close. Chuck Schuldiner is an amazing guitar player and vocalist, unique beyond unique.

Autopsy took it a step further with the release of Severed Survival with the grittiest chainsaw guitar tone ever and the vocals are just... Well, wow. And Steve DiGiorgio on bass - how can you compete with that?!

Control Denied, formed after Chuck dissolved the band Death, is the only one in the list that has clean singing. That doesn't mean every single album by Autopsy and Death are about nothing but "RAAWRBLOODDIEDIEFISHRAAWR" though. ;)
