Heyyyyyy
So did anyone notice that my rate of uploading things had decreased significantly over the course of February, March, and April? Well that was all because the majority of my time on most days of the week was going into working on this commission for
silverflame which ended up turning into an all-consuming blob monster of a story that ultimately reached SEVENTY-NINE THOUSAND WORDS. It was finished back at the end of April, but then the proofreading process ended up taking a long time afterwards to make sure everything was up to snuff. Of course I'm sure you all already noticed the multiple other submissions I made for this, because I assumed a lot of people would probably prefer to read smaller chunks instead of going through the whole thing all at once.
Some unspecified amount of time after Balloon Front Incoming (I guess nearly a year considering it's winter again) Rainbow Dash and Spearmint are participating in another race when things suddenly go awry. Now with an old threat looming on the horizon, everything in Equestria is drawn into a massive conflict over split friendships as Spearmint desperately tries to save her best friend. Features inflation and macro, but neither is really the primary motif or meant to be taken on a fetishy kind of level so I opted not to list either of those as the theme. I am not without my personal misgivings over this story, but I overall think that it came out as best as I could possibly make it and this was an important learning experience for me as a writer.
My Little Pony as a whole is owned by Hasbro.
Spearmint and Skyheart belong to Silverflame.
Just think: if I had put this same kind of dedication into working on Learning Curves, it would have been done a long time ago already.
The reason barely anything got uploaded in May though is because I was being a lazy fuck.

You're welcome. ^^ I think you struck that balance pretty well and got it as close to the show's tone as possible when bad stuff like that happens.
Something else I forgot to mention was that I actually liked how the Nightmare took Dash's fears and actually made that into its motivations. It really goes along with her abandonment issues really well.

I felt I was straddling a fine line with the Nightmare, I ended up using the demonic possession kind of angle closer to what's seen in the IDW comics than what Nightmare Moon was like in the show, but I wanted to go with a form that sort of combined the two because I wasn't really fond of how the Nightmare arc in the comics ended up going. The idea was that the Nightmare attaches itself to Rainbow Dash when she's in a moment of weakness and preys upon her emotions, but it doesn't directly assume control of her - at least, not until the end - it only makes her think that she's doing something that will keep her friends close to her. I was wary that some readers might be upset about the idea of one of the mane six turning evil, but I feel that it's done in a way that emphasizes the emotional stress of the character and those around her, and, unlike what I did in Learning Curves, things were more adequately explained.
