For Paleo_exchange on LJ! (Which needs more active members so please check it out if you like drawing prehistoric critters!)
This is Kettensage/dogsoul’s character, Vatali, a Gorgonopsid. Since she had no reference pic of this character yet I took some rather broad artistic liberties. Gorgonopsids, were mammal-like reptiles, and had a large number of mammalian specializations including differentiated tooth shape, the fully developed temporal fenestra, pillar-like rear legs and even ear bones. It is unknown whether these animals had fur, scales, or naked skin. Some reconstructions of these creatures show them with fur, I’ve always liked to draw them this way and have given this one a mammal-like muzzle and planum nasale. I also went for rather extreme perspective to further accentuate the massive maw of these creatures which I find their most appealing attribute!
Here also is the pic without textures, I can’t decide which I like best.
