I decided to try and update my Layridin species height chart. This time with numbers and shit so, maybe, it'll actually be useful in identifying the average height of things. Also in underwear to give a better view/ idea of the species anatomy.
Hat'kal are aggregate plant monsters. Their actual body consists of a little core (object in the middle) with a mask growing out of it. The mask contains the Hat'kal's sensory "organs" and the core contains their vitals. The core is able to manipulate plant life around it and build a body from the native flora.
When a Hat'kal dies, assuming the core is not destroyed (for example, burned or mulched) lands in or on fertile ground, and does not come into contact with a fresh corpes, the core will take root and grow into a large tree. The trees produce seeds that are fertilized by the ambulatory Hat'kal. Thus, ambulatory Hat'kal are all considered male, and the trees are considered the females of the species. This also ties into the Hat'kal religion that is basically ancestor worship.

they've conquered the large majority of the Jungle Lazurek, and several cities of River Lazurek. They haven't managed to push up the mountains to get to the Mountain Lazurek yet, and the last time an army tried, legend has it, they were slaughtered to a "man." They're currently at war with the Tomias, but it's currently a cold war, as neither side believes they can actually soundly defeat the other at the moment.
Hat'kal are vampirical by nature, able to sustain themselves on blood, as well as water and sunlight. If the deceased core comes into contact with a fresh corpse before it can take root, it will instead root into the corpse, feeding off the remaining blood. Its roots will spread and begin manipulating the corpse like a puppet, then seeking out other sources of blood. This is one of two major types of undead in Layridin referred to as a "Pacht'kal", and viewed as an abomination, an affront to their religion, by the Hat'kal for robbing their kinsmen of their right to join their ancestors in the Grove of the Ancients. Pacht'kal are also one of the few times Hat'kal condone the use of fire.
