"I've been at this for a few years. Traveling the world may be exciting, but trust me - when you trawl over everything you can trying to find something functionally invisible that only I can really detect? It'll get boring for you. Fast."

Magic had, for a long time, been something that was simply accepted in Equestria as a part of day-to-day life - it was only recently that ponies discovered that the source actually laid within gigantic ley lines beneath the ground. This wasn't really something that changed day-to-day life for unicorns or even the alicorns - but it did explain problems in big cities. Say, as a unicorn, you cast a spell to open a door on a command word. Then, you could very well end up walking around forever with this door's magic weighing down on your abilities, even when you're miles away. So ponies would normally just cast a spell to make it not draw from their magic - it was only recently that what they were putting that spell on was a ley line. Once cities started getting big enough...it started taxing the ley lines, interfering with magical items within the city and unicorns' ability to cast. And so, one pony with one special talent has been commissioned to draw up a map of these ley lines...named Ley Lines. Isn't it weird how pony names always work out like that?
DISCLAIMER: You might confuse this character with another character of a similar power with a similar name. I'm not committing art theft, and the concept is mostly mine. I asked her for permission to write this character - her idea (which I helped brainstorm with her for, mind you) inspired me heavily - and she granted it. If you don't believe me, then feel free to ask her.
