I created a bunch of halos using a custom gradient I made, set to circular mode, then duplicated the layer they were on, blurred it heavily and applied a "Triangle Wave" wave shape transformation with horizontal ratio set to zero.
It was pretty much a case of trial-and-error (or as I call it "I have no idea what I am doing"), to be perfectly honest.
