Background for the SeHT and _raIa commission- WIP
I'm really enjoying working on this one and I have to ask
forgiveness that I took so long to start the real work on this. There may be a few changes still to make in the details, but this is pretty much the finished background for his painting. The big black area is where the dragons will go- I removed them from this copy because SeHT had requested that bit be private.
I think the clouds need to be a bit more subtle, but I was having some fun with the twilight colours that I see so often in the mountains... Who would've thought the sky could be azure, turquoise, mauve, green and golden yellow, all at the same time? Gorgeous.
EDIT: somehow my mouse borked the category on the submission- it's supposed to read "digital art", not "designs"- hate it when my paw goes spastic. Dunno if I can fix it, short of taking the whole thing down and re-submitting it. I won't bother, though- it's fine as is...

And now that I have more time to comment properly.. *jawdrops!* :P
I don't suppose we'll get to see the entire image when it's done? I'm hoping so! But oh man, so gorgeous! The way you did the rocks, the lighting, the fire, the trees, the dragons in the background, the sky... wow. It's just amazing!
It really makes me want to commission something like this! Eee! (how much would something like this cost anyways? Dunno when I could do it, but I can't wait to be able to!)

Well, that'll be up to
whether or not he'll allow the whole thing to be shown. I asked for sixty bucks when
and I first agreed on this, but he sent a hundred, instead. So I wanted to do something special for him. I hemmed and hawed for months, trying to decide how to do it, did one rough after another, discarded most of them, and then shortly after that, I was traveling back and forth to be with KaniS and things got stuck on hold. I was taking a lot of photos during my trips, though, and some of the textures lend themselves well to something like this and I'd been getting into painting in photoshop... Anyway, the end result is that I've been learning how to manipulate the program (mostly using it as a glorified sketchpad) and learning a lot about light and colour (from both the program and the photography) and how they'll layer onto each other. I so hate having to trash so much of my work when I do things on paper- mistakes are impossible to fix in some cases- but doing his piece digitally looked like it might work, so I tried it.
Considering the hours already in this piece and it's not quite finished, a hundred bucks is probably cheap... *blushes that she might sound greedy*

Dunno, since I used a couple of photographs I took in Franklin Canyon and Joshua Tree National Park for textures and reference for this pic. which make-your-own-dragon site is it? That page on FA that has a flash animation on it where you can make a chibi version of yourself (if you were a dragon, that is...)? <-- it's the only one I know of.
Thank you! SeHT does like it- he went gaga over the little bit I posted. I'll post the finished cavern and interior stuff, like the furs they're lounging on, but the central image of the dragons will still be blacked out as SeHT hasn't yet said whether he's changed his mind on letting folks see the whole thing.
As for respecting the commissioner's wishes- I wouldn't be building a good rep if I didn't! As it is, I worry that I'm getting the reputation for taking forever to finish something. guh...

*blushes* Thanks! I'm new to digital paintings, so I see flaws where others might not. But I'm enjoying learning something new. I'm almost finished this one and another that I just completed will go up on the site soon (when I get the green-light from the customer, that is). This image (the full one, I mean) is a private piece, so folks will only get to see partials or details of it, rather than the whole deal.
