Earlier this month (June), Delta Airlines started flying in their 717-200s.
The aircraft was originally designed by McDonnell Douglas, and given the designation MD-95. After Boeing bought its former US rival in August 1997, the MD-95 lived on and became the 717.
The 717 is basically a DC-9-30 with an EFIS cockpit similar to the MD-90, and BR700-series engines like the ones on the Global Express.
All of Delta's 717s come from AirTran, and are leased from Southwest.
