To be fair, Baphomet is more like a pagan deity than a demon. But according to Curtsibling, this version is actually a loose interpretation to the original Baphomet, mostly turned as a comic character.

There's yet another hypothesis. "Baphomet" may be an encrypted name "Sophia" which is "divine wisdom" or "soul of the world". She was usually depicted as a woman, especially by Eastern Christians. In that case the images of the goat-horned male refer to somebody else and got mixed with the name when the worshippers were long dead.
