Mmm, tablets are love, srsly. I wanted to sketchy something and Kiuma is always a favorite of mine. She's my most rped character in Shadows of Africa, with the most depth to her character.
xD for how well this fits her, I'm surprised I've not drawn her snarling before. Probably just 'cause snarly faces are hard, but I found a screenshot from the Lion King that was fantastic for reference on mouth shape.
For those who knew Kiuma in the past from earlier submissions, she's changed a good deal in the last six months. After being betrayed by her god mate, Tanaka, she picked up a stray teen named Balaa. They traveled together for a bit and fell in love (or so Kiuma thought). The two lionesses were together a short time before Balaa was attacked and raped, ending in pregnancy. She was so upset by it that she abandoned the cubs in a nearby pride, but it pissed Kiuma off. She saw it as Balaa not thinking she could take care of their family. Her and Balaa parted ways at that point, unable to reconcile the problem. Heavily pregnant herself at the time, Kiuma found a sheltered place where she founded a pride with the litter she gave birth to.
This pride she based on the principles of the Greek Amazons. No males are allowed within the lands and should one be born in the pride, its fostered out in a neighboring, allied pride. When a female reaches teen, her faced is symbolically scarred, the Tears of Blood ceremony. When she reaches adulthood, when she feels ready, she travels out into the world away from the pride. She's expected to come back pregnant and have the cubs in the pride, as well as a good stock of experience behind her from her travels.
Recently, Kiuma had another litter of cubs, eight of them actually, which is a fantastic number. They're fathered by another god actually, a nephew to Tanaka her old mate, though neither of them knows about the connection. This is her last litter, since she's past her prime now, and all that's left for her is to raise her daughters and granddaughters and slowly decline into old age.
Though, with her violent past, I doubt her death will a peaceful one of old age. I <3 my growlypants girl.
