I think Maquenda's style had always shared some similarities with ours even before we met, and it's not necessarily the result of us having an influence on her. We are actually very similar people in many ways (she and Balaa especially).
Not saying it isn't possible that we have had an influence on her, but if we did, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing either? :) We are good friends, after all. Friends influence and inspire one another.
I don't really see any "Balaa-esque" qualities in this piece, and Maquenda has her own style of coloring that is very different. The way she draws figures and the pose in this one is a bit reminiscent of my work but I think it was used to great effect.
When it comes to art, the bottom line is whether or not the piece is beautiful and has an emotional impact on the viewer - for me, this piece succeeded in that regard. I honestly never cared much about if someone's style looks like another artist's and whatnot - trivial notions and not at all the point of art, in my opinion.
