Hello there. A question that comes up frequently for artists is what does your studio/ working place look like? I've never posted an image of my work space since except for being optimized for creating art it is nothing really special. I often get the impression that many non-artists imagine artist studios as being these magical sanctums where dragons slumber under cupboards and elves play and sing in the rafters.
Well for what is worth this is the space where
Smudge and I spend much of our days drawing, writing, and creating the images you see. This is only one half of the studio area, the second half is a mass of bookcases and shelves that are in desperate need of reorganizing, which is task we are slowly grinding our way through. I'll be posting photos of just my computer desk and drawing table soon.

Well that's because Smudge and I have made a conscious decision to try and separate our work space from the rest of our living space. Sure I'll sit on the sofa and sketch on occasion, but especially now that art is my living I try to keep my professional and private life separate.
Well here's one right here. Since projects will often take several days to complete and require lots of materials being easily available I really need dedicated work area. Even when my drawing table was in my bedroom that part of the room was set up exclusively for art.
I just draw on a lapboard... or even a clipboard. My preferred medium is 8 1/2 by 11 paper, so who needs a professional drafting board the size of an aircraft carrier deck? I have one, mind you ... stored in a closet. Set up, there would be hardly any room in my living room to do anything draw, and I couldn't see over it to watch the TV. As it is, my living room is part studio, part office and part library.
The drafting table I have is also quite a bit larger than yours appears to be. I got it from a friend of mine whose business went bankrupt. He was clearing out the office and said I could take it. It was no easy matter getting it home, and stored in the closet, but from the start I had hoped to sell it. No luck, however. I advertised in a couple of art schools, even, but eventually I just forgot about the damned thing. It really is about five foot by four foot, big enough for architectural blueprints. I have no idea what my friend did with it -- I suspect that one reason he went out of business is that he spend too much on things he didn't need.
As cool as it would be, having small sleeping dragons in the cupboards and elves dancing in the rafters would make for a terrible workspace because they'd be too distracting! That said, I wouldn't mind having a hobbit hole for my workspace, a very comfortable, well but simply furnished place with lots of wooden and earthy colors, and some nice bookshelves for all of my reference and inspiration books.
