I wrote this almost a year ago when
Zenion-Infinitium and I were first making characters Zen and Artemis. I am so surprised how these characters have evolved since that time! I definitely need to do more art of Artemis and the lupinicdeer...
Artemis is from a reclusive species known as "lupinicdeer" that can be as ferocious as wolves if provoked. However, since they tend to look more like their wolf ancestors in looks, Nature balanced out their wolvish features with deer-like personalities. These creatures prefer to be around their relatives in the deepest reaches of the woods west of FurAffinity's capital, FurAffinis.
Artemis tried to reach out to other species at an early age, against the wishes of many of her relatives. However, whenever she would encounter other creatures, they would often be put off by her quirks (such as her difficulty continuing a conversation and tendency to overthink simple tasks).
At the age of 18, she almost gave up on the idea of communicating with other species completely until talent scouts came to her town from the University of FurAffinis and noticed her skill with comprehending complex physics. By the age of 22, she was capable of running her own quantum physics experiments and had even programmed a telescope to detect wormholes and dark matter (the major component of black holes). Nevertheless, her fellow researchers young and old hated her precociousness and took her social awkwardness as arrogance. It did not help that Artemis preferred the company of her family and her books.
One day while scanning the night sky with her telescope she detected an area with large time reversals and alterations in space. This area happened to be above a jungle far north of FurAffinis. In addition to the alterations there were gargantuan thunderstorms that were visible from miles away for 2 weeks. She brought a proposal to the head of the physics department at the beginning of the 3rd week to send a physics expedition out in that direction. Although the head was reluctant to send a young physicist on expedition, Artemis' data was almost impossible to ignore. It showed that these fluctuations and storms may have been the result of a wormhole close enough to earth to cause these changes, but far enough to not damage the planet significantly.
However, Artemis soon found that this series of phenomena were the result of a god-like fox creature that she found scarred and beaten next to an orb with a great deal of dark-matter properties within it. She named the fox "Vulpisdeum" or "the fox favored by the gods" and took him back to her lab. She noticed he was not dead but seemed to be a state of enhanced mental activity that could be compared to Buddhist monks trance-like meditation practices. This process not only seemed to repairing his body, but making him completely unaware of the people around him.
Nevertheless, such mental repair took so much energy that upon waking up, "Vulpisdeum" unleashed such a wave mental energy that it nearly kills everyone within FurAffinis...
