I asked the driver about this car and he bought it as a used race car from one of the lowest series of NASCAR racing. Now it runs roadcourse's instead of ovals.

What an odd body! I thought it might be the new S2 body from Five Star, because of the wing, but in looking at the rest of the body, what he has here is a typical Five Star NASCAR Late Model template body with a new splitter and wing. Interesting.
How'd he do in the race? :o
Edit: Looks like a 2000-2003 or so 5 star Monte Carlo due to the 'grille' design.

Those races sound so awesome!!!!! That had to be really great to watch. :D
I'm really glad you go to these and take pics, and share 'em with us. You're actually one of the reasons I come back to check this site out, 'cause you find the most interesting cars. :D This makes me wonder... are there any SCCA races like this in Southern California that you know of? I'd really like to get out to one of these like you have.

Aha, I thought that might be the case! I'd heard something to that effect a while ago, but didn't know if it was true or not. It makes sense, too. The Camaro/Mustang/Challenger bodies look more like real cars, and are more appealing to fans and sponsors (IMO.)
As far as I know, these are similar to the new Trans Am 2 series? (I forget its exact name, so I might be wrong on that.)

I tend to agree with you, they look much better...BUT...the aero is worse...hence the weight penalty for the Monte Carlo body.
A buddy of mine has run TA 2 (you got the name right!) with his car a few times, the rules are basically the same as for these GT2 stock cars but with a few more restrictions (only one wing style allowed, only one engine choice for each make, etc...)
The stock car style cars that race in GT2 are typically older cars that are no longer legal for TA2...the idea is a trickle down effect.

Aha! That explains a lot! I'd been curious if that was the cause of the weight penalty, as the new bodies really don't seem very 'slippery' in the front end department, yeah. I can imagine at a track like Kansas, the old Montes would be screaming around the oval with that round nose.
That's so awesome to learn all this though! :D I really need to find out if either GT2 or TA2 runs out here in the west at all. I'm really, really loving how both divisions sound. :D Thanks for all the information!! :D
