Now why would you want to try to put a car on a public road to that kind of speed? If I want speed I'll get off the ground and do it in the air and have just as much fun

...ouch... a quick visit to a tire shop and the owner will be more cautious I'll bet...

Actually low profile is better for handling they don't break free as easily, but they don't ride nearly as well. and they aren't as forgiving on those bumps you go over quickly run flats actually don't ride all that well either. I actually Frankensteined a full size spare for my car, it only has the compact spare on board.

Yeah they may handle better but that is also a subjective thing too. They do seem to be harsher when it comes to the ride.

I like the old tires better, more forgiving when you hit a pothole at speed ...

You and I both know it. One guy brought in a broken mad rim into the shop that had done that only he said he hit the curb. He wanted to know if we could weld it for him... Mark had me look at the rim and I said no I could see the cracks in the casting and I had no idea what it was made out of.

He look it out to GEM Welding and they welded it up and he was going down the freeway and had the weld let go...

Surprise surprise on it letting go, there was no way for them to see/get all the weakened areas without turning it into one big weld ...

It's like computers after a lighting strike nearby, some of it may work now, but there's no way of knowing for how long.

That is part of it the other is no idea what alloy they wheels are and if you don't use the right filler rod they welds stand a good chances of cracking. My worry was the rim was magnesium or magnesium-aluminum alloy and I didn't want to worry about fire from the prep work.

Heh, and 'I'll try somebody else' learned that some things shouldn't be 'fixed' ...

Who knows, I found out what happened when he came back into the shop to tell me and show me the old one... The weld prep work wasn't done right for starters. They just did a little grinding so when they ground the weld off they took most of the weld off. He spent 60 bucks to save about a 120 dollar rim. And had to get a new rim in the end anyway.

I run 50 series uses tires on my Subaru. Basically, you know immediately when a tire gets low, instead of riding different, it pulls hard to one side or another. The rear ones are harder to detect but still cause pulling. Having all new valve stems and bead sealer put on fixed that. I prefer handling over ride, I love my snow tiresbut can't wait to get the summer rims on so I can corner again evrey spring.

2 of 4 rims are bent, I'm probably going to scrap them when these tires wear out. I don't know how they got bent but its possible I hit a pothole or etc with the low profile tires... The rims owe me nothing, I got them in 2005 for 150 and have driven on them since.

When i dressed my ex-Merc (w202) in 15in "scandinavian" (hard compound mud/snows) - i forgot about flats or tire change for whole 4 years straight. Since that, i choose my wheels like rally drivers do: one set, for full stage, and extreme conditions.

HEHE I use to run around in Heels all the time... When I was at work I had my work boots for good reason.
