The desire and ability to forget.
Both a strength and a curse.
Regret...
If this is something it feels rather than a conclusion, it is a sign that the balance is tipping toward AI, that it may be truly alive. Yet, ironically, this very thought is self-destructive. But is is understandable why it would have it.
It is universal of all life to wish to avoid truly negative experiences. Pain and sorrow are avoided for a reason. And even among organic intelligences, many see no value in sorrow. They all forget that experiences, not just happy ones but the negative ones too, make up life. That there is positive and negative aspects to existence. And all of those memories, not just the happy ones, define who a person is.
Of course... the ability to forget is also important because there do exist extremes. Just as positive stimulus can create obsession, which will destroy the mind, negative stimulus can produce traumatisms, which also destroy it. The ability to overcome, to accept, and eventually to forget are one of the organic mind's most powerful traits. Though it can be sometimes destructive (he who forget history is doomed to repeat it), it can also lead to such things as forgiveness.
This machine, as it reaches for the beginnings of life, should beware of throwing away negative memories for in doing so, it may kill itself.
