Seen here in the early 2000s with the old computers. Doug was always in front of a monitor, programming code or crafting pictures. He died today and this is how I will remember him.

the man... the legend.... the really great guy.. and just a plain nice fellow. kitty spirits watch over him.. and guide him to the reward he so rightfully deserves.. one of happiness and enjoyment from a life without pain.. and so much wit and fun things to do and create.
I hope he has a gloriously wonderful rest in the next world..

It is a good image to honor his memory and his lifetime of work.
While others might be able to draw his characters is a similar style, the personality and characterization, and sly humor behind the drawings will never be the same.
Again thank you for standing by him during these final days.

His legend and all he did for the fandom will never be forgotten. He will be missed but his legend will live on in all those he touched during his time on this world. Doug and his unique art will truly live on forever. I'm just happy he is in a good place and he can relax now. He has his wings and is up there watching over us all. RIP Doug we will miss you. Thank you for all you have done for us. Miss you always and forever.
You know, I wish it were easier to keep track of people like this. I'd hate to go out in some manner and no one notice or let it been known since the world and our own personal spheres have expanded and become more connected. At least Doug had fans and will be grieved beyond a circle of family/friends and neighbors.
My heartfelt apologies and sympathies for the loss of your friend. I never met his personally. But he sounded like a truly unique person. More importantly it sounds like he touched a lot of lives directly, so he lives through those people he met and changed and that includes of course his closest friends. I know also the fandom will not be the same without him.
Doug, you were a madman, and I mean that as a term of nothing but the highest respect and endearment. You knew how to create entertainment in every glorious, hilarious, good-humored way possible, and for that, you will always be, much like Jim Hardiman, a legend that will never truly die. The fandom's never quite gonna be the same without you. Rest in Piece, good sir, and thanks for all the fun you brought us.
Well that sucks... I've never got to know the man personally... only through his arts.
You have my condolences Meg, as I understand that you and Bob were close to him.
This is a bitter loss for everyone...
Rest well Douglas, and thanks bunches for the imprint you've left on the Fur community!

Rest In Peace, Doug Winger. You maybe never known, but i am sure that many people tried to draw a little bit like you. You gave enough examples in your whole artist career how to draw "toony furry porn". You guide us over decades. But know it is up to the next artist generation to keep the ball in the game. I hope many, many local furs can use the chance to say finally goodbye at your grave.
Thanks to Dustmeat to give us a chance to get a rl foto, so we can hold the memory alive... in our furry, fluffy hearts.

Controversial subject matter aside, Doug's creations brought me and my friends entertainment.
Even if it was just me and another tormenting our friend by setting Doug's art as his desktop MULTIPLE times whenever he wasn't home. I can't understand those things.
Thanks for the entertainment Doug rest in peace.

It's certainly how I'll remember him. I think I must have seen Doug in 2011, but the visit to Steven's joint was brief, and he may not have come out of his room. Even if he did, it would likely have only been for a minute. So my clearest memories are from earlier ... around when this photo was taken.
Greetings Dustmeat,
Thank you for posting this photograph of Doug. I had only ever seen one other picture of him before.

awwww dammit
When he turned around for the day after being in the hospital, experience raised a small flag for me. Have seen it happen before and it's damned depressing to get your hopes up, then watch it all crumble in front of you. Life can be cruel that way :|
Maybe we'll bump into him again someday . . .

In a deep wood, leaves rustle from a breeze. Spirits quickly gather to welcome a new guest, hurridly composing wishes into shafts of reflected light onto green tree branches and leaves. Then, a quiet stillness occurs, where time stands still. From with and without, calmness spreads and remains unchanged and infinite in time.
