I've had some requests for Dusk and Dawn's background :) They weren't always Matt's familiars. Before they even met him, they were healer members of the FEDF Medical Corps. (As the conflict between humans and furries was brought to an end, the liberation groups were united into the Furry Expeditionary Defense Force.) The device Dawn is carrying is a MedSet, a portable (luggable) scanning unit and terminal. A healer can heal you better when they know more about what's wrong with you. :) Dawn and Dusk became friends in the medical corps and stayed for years until the FEDF was finally disbanded. How they met Matt is another story...

A little. It wasn't anywhere near as heavy, though.. it isn't designed for multiple computing tasks. It's basically a controller for the bionovic scanner and a reference terminal, that's about it. An ordinary PC (even back then) would have tons more processing power.
I remember the Osbourne. When I worked at General Electric (Lighting Business Group) in 1986, we had configured a number of them as portable programming terminals for our PLC-based control panels. The keyboard was in the detachable cover, which exposed a 4" or 5" monochrome mini-monitor, and a pair of 5.25" floppy drives (the old bulky ones, before they came out with "half-height" and "quarter-height" drives).
Oh yes, very hefty, but probably lighter than the IBM Portable. One contemporary critic referred to that beast as "Portabulica the Obese".
