The sun burned high overhead as Enek dragged the back of his arm across his forehead, wiping the sweat off. The bounty hunter angled his horse towards the small outpost overhead, one of the few rest stops established between the larger frontier settlements. Hardly more than an enclosed wall with a central multipurpose building and watch tower, the outposts saw a fair amount of traffic through them. In Enek's case, he just wanted to get out of the heat for awhile and let his horse drink.
With no real guards to speak of, the outposts had more than enough hands on guns as he pulled in; whether the holders were other bounty hunters like himself or just the cautious traveler he did not know or really care.
Hitching his horse and turning towards the central building, Enek looked up as a voice called out to him. "Hey! Look who it is. Fancy meeting you here lover." The voice belongs to a feline-morph, a lioness specifically, as she waved to him. A bright smile on her face as she jogged over to meet him half way. The human remained passive, even as she came in close and slid her hands around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. "Play along..." She whispered, lips pressing to his.
His mind raced, even from the corners of his eyes he saw those who watched them openly, but more than a few who wanted to not be caught watching. More questions than answers, Enek decided to trust the lioness as he slid his arms around her waist and held her close for the moment. As the kiss broke a moment later, the two looked into each others eyes; though her smile read happy and cheerful, her eyes were filled with fear and uncertainty. The emotion was not directed at him however, but the slightest twitches in her gaze as she wanted to look around them, but disciplining herself not to and instead remain on him.
"Come on, let's get inside. How long has it been now anyway?" Enek asked, following this little game as he lead her towards the building with a tug on her waist. The lioness followed readily as she remained on his side, purposefully letting Enek feel as she slipped something into his hands as they held one another.
Finding a quiet corner away from the brunt of the conversations, Enek sat with his back to the wall as the feline girl sat in front of him; blocking any outside view with her body. Looking at the object she had given him, it was a small message capsule. "Burn it after you're done." She said quietly, cutting off the question he was about to ask.
To whom it may concern, your name shall be explicitly removed for security purposes and hopes that this reaches its destination. We have great need of your services. The track record of your deeds thus far show the necessary adaptability and precision needed for our task in question. Chancellor Adini in the township of Tonopah is involved in various misdeeds ranging from political and financial blackmail, to drug trafficking, and even suspected slave trade. This is not a man but a stain on the honor of the western frontier, and as much as we would enjoy simply having him dead, he must be dishonored first for the impact of the message to take hold. However due to his station the man has political immunity from anything we may do, what he does not have immunity to however is someone breaking in and stealing his records. Our scouts report the man keeps them in a small personal sized chest brazenly right atop his desk in the study. If you can bring the chest with our assigned agent safely to our hands you will be paid in the order of 10 thousand gold coins. Good luck, and god speed.
As soon as he was finished reading, Enek tore the message into pieces and dropped the scraps into a nearby lantern that burned for light in the dark corner. Turning his gaze back to the lioness who watched him with an uncertain face. "I accept, though the danger likely equates the pay I assume? What do I need to prepare myself with for this little escapade?"
Rising with him, she reached behind her cloak and produced a double-barreled hand cannon of a gun that she offered in his direction. "I need you to be ready to shoot, to ride, and possibly even die. Chancellor Adini has hurt far too many to be allowed to continue.. and I'll stop at nothing to make sure he falls." The look in her eyes as Enek saw them now was no longer filled with fear, but instead a burning anger and conviction. "We'll move tonight. Are you ready?"
