This is a lovely little game that I finished recently! Environmental Station Alpha was a superb Metroid-style game that I enjoyed so thoroughly I felt inspired to make some art for it in the style of the Super Metroid cover! I'm very pleased with the results, myself! Also I recommend you try the game out if you're fond of Metroidvania games, heavily leaning toward Metroid.

Eh, that game was alright. I think it was a mistake to stick to the classic 4 way shooting, and the mobility became a chore.
In my opinion Axiom Verge was a far, *fer* better example of the genre. If you liked this, I think you'll really enjoy that.
Plus I'd love to see you try and draw something from that.

Oh man, I loved it. Especially the mobility, haha. The 4-way shooting becomes a non-issue when you get the gun upgrade, too.
I was somewhat interested in Axiom Verge when I heard about it, but there are a few hurdles for me with that game. It's $20 compared to ESAs $8, the main character looks pretty lame (subjective opinion, of course), and the aesthetics (and lack thereof), it looks reaaaaaally same-y from what I've seen, and since backtracking is such a big part of metroidvanias (my least favorite part, if I'm being honest), that seems like a big issue. Being able to say "I remember that locked door I couldn't get through back in the volcano sector" is much easier than "There was a locked door back in that...other...purply Giger-inspired location....".
On that note, that's basically what I'd be drawing from that, something HR Giger-ish, since that is very clearly the inspiration, haha. Which I love! But I don't know that I'm cut out for that, repetition of patterns and airbrushing that Giger did, not my forte.

Actually stopped by the stream for a bit (didn't say anything, sorry, bit of a lurker, haha :P), and wound up buying the game. ^.^
Basically got to the water stage serpent boss, and shat a brick/ragequit when the second stage started. Gotta get back into that, though, it's hella fun~

Woo! Yeah, it was super awesome that the developer watched me play through the end of it. Thanks for watching a bit of it yourself!
Yeah, haha, he was one of the harder bosses for me, but there's several upgrades and stuff you could try to get before fighting him that'd make him a lot easier, like the Propeller for easier underwater movement, and then a bunch more health upgrades that you could find.

I'm unfamiliar with it! But, there's a lot of extrapolating here, since in the game he's like a 8 x 5 sprite, lol.
I basically searched the guys blog for some of his own drawings of the character during development, and then a couple larger, single frame pixel art images of the character in the game, as reference.

Woo! I hope you like it! :D
I just went for the main normal ending, and got all the upgrades. You can go down a crazy long rabbit hole doing puzzle solving and junk to get to a secret boss and two other possible endings, I just didn't want to put the time in for that, haha.
