Been staring at this too long, I thought I needed a less venty version of it laying around as well.
This is my old fursona--now muse, SeishukuUmou. She is a gryphon and normally has wings but I've been feeling especially grounded and stuck lately, so I drew her with them removed. It looks like she's got some nasty scars to cover because of it.
I toyed with the concept of her having green blood in this one because if you think of how skin/blood work, then it makes no sense for her skin to be green if her blood is red hahah.
Anyway the concept behind this sketch started out as kind of a 'lost and nowhere to go' sort of idea, where she's stuck on the ground facing a blank wall. Like most vent art though, I started to feel better as I drew so it kind of took on this tribally feel to it, and turned into her cave-painting a pair of wings in her own blood.
...Metal.

I faved the mature version already and I'm glad I can finally tell you how beautiful it is!
Really, this piece's stunning. The meaning's so powerful, it really speaks to me. The wings shape's so obvious yet symbolic... I didn't know the character, but I understood straight away what happened.

Thank you. I'm glad it's meaning came across, I have a problem with being a little too obvious sometimes especially in my venting work, so I tried to go with something a little different this time.
I really struggled with the colors though o__x which is why there are two versions, hahah.

I meant to ask you with the other version.
Was the marking on the wall meant to represent wings? Because it definitely looks that way, and it's a very cool touch.

Hahah you would have been fine but yes, they are supposed to represent the wings that she was missing in the image. The first thing I think of when being the way I felt today is chains, or other forms of bondage. But I wanted to do flight, or lack thereof, as a different way to symbolize being stuck in a bind. I can imagine an avian without wings would be pretty useless and lost.
