Yes, Scarlet does have a boyfriend, Aetius. And he's not of the same species. (Scandalous!)
Inter-species relationships in the Azure Wheel galaxy aren't really looked down on, but most tend to be attracted to their own species. It's just natural chemistry.
I'm not sure how they met, but I do know that he fell in love with her personality and for the longest time wished that she was the same species so they could date. At one point he just says "What the hell" and asks her out.
He doesn't really know what she does for a living and is a total skeptic. He thinks that she works in "public relations" at an office somewhere. Imagine his surprise when he finds out what she really does...

Oh, I already have. Quills and I double-dated Eclipsegryph and Maggock when they were passing through town, and we bought them a flight of beer samples at the local gastropub. MUCH hilarity ensued.
Aetius and Scarlet are probably cut from the exact same cloth as those two scamps. The "interspecies" thing bothers me not one whit, and I'd hope they wouldn't catch too much opprobrium in their world, either.
(The other fictional example that comes to mind are Ampris and Elrabin from the Alien Chronicles. Neither would take an actual mate outside their own species, but they still shared the closest relationship either had ever known or would ever know. The only thing that REALLY got between them was that Ampris was a too-pure-to-be-true idealist, and Elrabin an extremely hardcore pessimist and cynic. Opposites...)
