"Photo-Op: John Canemaker/Long Island, NY/Spring, 1991"
In the past, I had posted 'photo-ops' of myself with some incredible cartoon directors (such as Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng), as well as solo photos of other folks in the animation industry (e.g. Myron Waldman). And you can see all of them in my 'Scraps' section.
Well, for my latest "Throwback Thursday", I have another famous animation director, captured on 35mm film, when I got to meet him at an animation art store on Long Island called Gifted Images (Circa the late Spring of 1991 - when I was still living in Elmont, New York).
The person is John Canemaker, an independent animation director - whose film credits include "The Wizard's Son" (1981), "Bottom's Dream" (1982), and "The Moon And The SOn: An Imagined Conversation" (2006). The latter title, BTW, earned Canemaker an Academy Award for 'Best Animated Short Subject'.
In addition to all this, John was also the author of a series of books on the animation industry. At the time when I'd visited him at Gifted Images, he was promoting his (then) latest book, "Felix: The Twisted Tale Of The World's Most Famous Cat". Naturally, I'd bought a copy of the hardcover edition, which he was gracious enough to autograph. And I also took a picture of him, while he was contemplating how to autograph another copy of the book (for another fan of his).
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, I was a (devotee) member of ASIFA-East (a society for animators on the East Coast of the USA), and I used to attend some of their meetings in New York City. I had brought the photograph I'd taken of John Canemaker to one of those meetings, for him to autograph.
You can check out many other 'photo-ops' of folks in the animation industry (including various directors and voice actors).
