I'm a sucker for scythes as well. But drawing them is pretty hard. I don't think I've ever even seen a real scythe up close.

I was a bit surprised when Houshou told me that he'd like me to draw his flying squirrel character donned in the raiments of the Angel of Death... It's not a very usual combination. But it was very fun to draw. :)

Very cool! The fleshy look you gave the rose, whether intentional or not, is wonderful.

And among all the fairly standard iconography, that centipede really stands out as interesting. Why'd you put it there?

I figured that the picture needed something a bit more grimy than a rose. I thought that having some bug crawl over the character's feet would bring him an inch closer to the grave.

I love the composition! I mean, the subject matter's interesting already, but the composition is what really brings it to life. The millipede is fitting too.

Awesome Death!! What comic drawing contest is that and what are you going to draw?!? *excited*

I gotta draw 30 strips consisting of three panels by the end of January. The winner gets his or her comic published in the newspapers as well as (up to) several thousand euros. The best comics will also be collected into an album and published at some point.

I've already drawn some comic strips. I made up this character... She's a student girl who's lazy as hell, pretty dumb and perpetually happy and perky. She was originally a fox, but she decided to turn into a human and travel to Southern Finland so she could study commerce or some other fancy-sounding stuff. She doesn't have things planned out very well in advance, so she comes across all kinds of bureaucratic setbacks and so on.

It's all pretty basic and the atmosphere is more "nice" than funny, but I'm trying to draw it as good as I possibly can. The competition is most likely going to be tough, so I will have to draw super good in order to compensate for the lack of witty punchlines.

Please can I read it at some point please? Can I vote to make you win please? You will definitely be my favourite! ^_^

I was feeling a bit awkward when I heard that my task was to draw a squirrel of death, but in the end I sort of liked the mix between cuteness and (nec)romantic symbolism.
